Determination Of Hormones And Antibiotics
In recent years, the use of hormones and antibiotics in animals has become a prominent issue. Hormones such as synthetic estrogen and testosterone are added to increase meat and milk production. In this way, rapid but unnatural development of animals is ensured.
Apart from the natural hormones secreted in our body, health problems may occur due to artificial hormones taken with food. In line with the 96/22/EC directive, the use of synthetic hormones in animals is prohibited in the European Union due to their toxic effects.
Hormone residues in foods;
- Hormonal disorders
- Carcinogenic effects
- May cause nervous disorders.
The use of antibiotics is mostly carried out to treat animals or to prevent disease. It is not correct to slaughter or milk animals that have used antibiotics. Antibiotics used in animals cannot be easily eliminated from the animal body because they are not fully metabolized.
For this reason, antibiotics that pass into food obtained from animals adversely affect human health after long-term consumption.
Regulations to be considered regarding the use of hormones and antibiotics in foods of animal origin:
- Communiqué Amending the Turkish Food Codex Communiqué on Maximum Residue Limits for Veterinary Medicines for Foods of Animal Origin
- Communiqué on Hormones and Similar Substances Prohibited to be Applied to Animals with Food Value and Subject to Certain Conditions
As Nanolab Laboratories Group, we carry out "Hormone and Antibiotic Determination" test procedures in many parts of Turkey in accordance with the relevant legal regulations and standards.
