Pool Water Testing
The number of swimming pools is increasing. These indoor and outdoor swimming pools, which are used for sports or entertainment purposes, must comply with hygienic conditions. In order to determine the quality standards of the pool water, the Ministry of Health issued a Regulation on the Health Principles and Conditions to which Swimming Pools Will Be Subjected in 2011. This regulation was issued in order to ensure that all indoor and outdoor swimming pools used for swimming purposes and the water in them comply with the specified conditions in terms of hygiene, to determine the quality standards of the pool water and to regulate the procedures and principles for the inspection and monitoring of the pools. This regulation does not cover spa and mineral pools used for health purposes and pools not used for commercial purposes.
In the annex of the regulation, there are tables showing the chemical properties, physical properties and microbiological properties of pool waters. In addition, the indicator values to be used in the analyzes to be made by the relevant laboratories are given.
According to the provisions of the regulation, the analyzes in these tables must be performed by authorized laboratories once a month by the persons or organizations operating the swimming pool. In periods when pool use is very intense, these analyzes should be done twice a month.
