Packaging Harmonization Studies in Cosmetic and Biocidal Products
There is a wide variety of packaging materials used for cosmetic and biocidal products. Packaging produced using raw materials such as glass, metal and plastic should be protected from external factors until the products reach the consumer. The packaging used should be determined based on the characteristics of the product.
While choosing packaging materials, it has to pass various tests and analyzes. Harmful chemicals may be transferred from the packaging to the cosmetic and biocidal products it contains through migration. Cosmetic and biocidal products have long expiry dates. In this process, the products remain in the package and there may be a chemical transition from the package.
Chemicals harmful to human health, such as phthalates, heavy metals, and chamfers, may pass through. Likewise, if the characteristics of the package are not sufficient to protect the product, it may cause the proliferation of microorganisms. The compatibility of the packaging with the cosmetic and biocidal product is basically evaluated under three headings; Chemical Tests, Microbiological Tests, Physical Tests.
Packaging Compliance Studies are evaluated under 3 headings.
- Chemical Tests
- Total Migration
- Specific Migration
- VOCs
- SCHCs
- PAH
- Microbiological Tests
- Antibacterial Evaluation
- Total Bacteria, Mold, Yeast
- Physical Tests
- Organoleptic Test
- Plastic Performance Tests
