Determination of Oil and Grease in Water

Oil and grease expressions generally express the same substance, grease, the oil and other additives are the same, but apart from these, substances are added to increase the density partially in order to increase the external resistance against abrasions such as heat and crushing.

Considering some structural and functional properties, we can list the compounds in natural oils and fats as follows: Fatty Acids, Isomers in Fatty Acids, Glycerides, Phospholipids, Cerebrosides, Sterols, Waxes, Color Substances (Lipochromes), Natural Antioxidants.

If we talk about the environmental importance of oil and grease, the oil and grease content of domestic and industrial waste is primarily important for the collection and purification processes of these products. Due to the low water solubility of oil and grease, it accumulates in the upper part. However, since the decomposition of oil and grease in water is slow, they do not easily go away from their environment and therefore can cause great problems in aquatic environments.

"Oil and Grease Determination" in domestic and industrial wastes is an important test parameter when we consider the problems they may create.
