% Alcohol Analysis by Volume
The standard measure of what alcohol is in a given volume of alcoholic beverages is called % Alcohol by Volume. In the labeling of beverages, the % volume amount is determined within the scope of legal requirements and relevant regulations.
In the food industry, the density of a beverage by volume is the number of liters of ethanol contained in 100 liters of hydroalcoholic solution with the same density as the beverage distillate at 20 °C. The principle of % Alcohol Analysis is the distillation of the beverage volume by volume after alkalinization with a calcium hydroxide suspension.
“Volume Alcohol Analysis” is performed to determine the % volume amount on the labels of alcoholic beverages or to prove the claimed amount. It is an analysis suitable for beverage producers.
